As May started off I felt super inspired and creative. I started watching YouTube videos to learn more about figure drawing because I wanted to be able to draw the human figure better. I completed these two figure/gesture drawing and finally thought I was starting to actually understand the shapes for figure drawing. So I decided to take on the challenge of drawing a figure/gesture drawing everyday in May. Then I found that a group of people were doing a drawing a day in may and using the hastag #maywedraw. I created a flip through video with all the drawings I completed for the month. I wasn't able to complete one everyday (I missed 4 days), but I tried to do either a page of gesture drawings or a drawing with 2 figures in it to make up for the missed day. I love how you can see the progress from the beginning to the end. Here is the video:
Here I was trying to practice drawing somebody screaming for an idea I have. I feel it still looks to pretty. I can't seem to get down drawing anything mean or scary. This might have to be my next challenge.
There was another hashtag going around called #artvsartist. People were showing a picture of themselves with their art surrounding them. I decided to also include some of my graphics work because being a graphic designer is such a big part of my life.
May brought on another ArtSnacks challenge. You can read more about that here.
I have made some progress on my office/studio. Here is the finished floor.
I was also able to finish painting the walls. As of now I am moved in but have a few more things I would like to get completed before doing a full walk through blog post.
May 10th the boyfriend and I celebrated 8 years of being together. The weekend before we drove up to Orlando and went to Disney Springs. We walked around and did some shopping. The big reason we went here is because I love Chef Morimoto and have been watching him since the original Iron Chef was on the Food Network. I found out he had a restaurant here and we had to eat there. The food was amazing as expected, we got spicy tuna rolls for an appetizer and then I got the Spice Pork Ramen. I didn't take pictures of the food.
As we were leaving I took a picture of this painted kanji lettering on one of the beams. The hostess told me that Morimoto painted that himself. How cool is that!!!
Here is the sign for the restaurant. All the imagery inside and out was beautiful.
After we were done down at Disney Springs, we made a trip to Ikea. The boyfriend decided he does not like the way Ikea is set up, its to much walking around to find what you want. I love walking around and seeing everything set up. We purchased some shelving for the office here.
This was the sun setting as we were heading back home.
One night the boyfriend decided he wanted to make Tequila Sunrises. They were super yummy!
We have a gopher tortoise that has made a home in our backyard. Every once in awhile he makes an appearance to eat some of the leafy grass.
We also get these creepy orb weaver spiders in our backyard. They are called Spinybacked Orb Weaver Spiders. They make amazing webs that are super sticky.
Towards the end of the month the boyfriends Mom came to visit us. The first thing she wanted to do was go see the beach. It was a beautiful day for the beach!
Then we couldn't decide where to go next, but settled on the Florida Oceanographic Society. They have a small stingray touch tank. A huge lagoon with all kinds of gamefish and nurse sharks. Then they have a few sea turtle off in their own corner of the lagoon. These turtles looked like they have been injured and like they wouldn't be able to survive in the wild.
There was also some nature trails and we decided to walk the smaller one as they were getting ready to close soon.
The next day we went to the Navy Seal Museum. They have changed so much since the last time we were there. If you are in the area go check them out, it is a great place to learn about the Navy Seals and what they do.
